Chapter 17: Female Genital Tract & Breast
The great majority of carcinomas of the cervix are squamous cell carcinomas. Medical students often find this a confusing topic because 1) the terminology is a bit convoluted; 2) there are multiple precursor lesions to consider; and 3) the pathogenesis is quite detailed, harkening back to the Hallmarks of Cancer videos!
This video covers biologic risk factors for invasive carcinoma as well as cultural/environmental factors. There is a brief discussion at the end to address the increased risk of triple negative breast cancer in African American women.
This video for medical students describes the pathogenesis of the three major biologic categories of invasive breast cancer ( luminal; HER2; and triple negative) and the morphologic types of breast cancer with a focus on ductal and lobular carcinoma.
This video for medical students begins with a review of the cells of the placenta (with a brief detour into preeclampsia and eclampsia) and then addresses gestational trophoblastic disease: hydatid moles (complete & partial), invasive mole, choriocarcinoma and placental site trophoblastic tumor.
