Chapter 9: Heart

This video for medical students begins by reviewing fetal circulation since that is key to understanding two of the left to right shunts we'll be addressing: patent foramen ovale and patent ductus arteriosus. Other topics included in this video include general characteristics of left to right shunts, Eisenmenger syndrome (tardive cyanosis), atrial septal defects, and ventricular septal defects. It is recommended that you watch this video before watching the video on right to left shunts.

This video for medical students covers five cyanotic congenital heart disorders: transposition of the great vessels, tetralogy of Fallot, total anomalous pulmonary venous connection, truncus arteriosus and tricuspid atresia. I go into a bit more detail on the last three than is covered in Robbins because... deeper understanding = better medicine! I also discuss obstructive disorders: coarctation of the aorta and valvular stenosis/atresia. Enjoy!

Myocardial infarction is a VAST topic with much to consider. In this video for medical students, I will focus on the pathogenesis of myocardial infarction, the evolution of morphologic features over time and the clinical consequences of myocardial infarction.
